What is the difference between "given name" and "first name"?

Your given name is your first name. It's the name your parents actually chose for you (they didn't choose your last name). You will often see given name used with the term surname. Likewise, you will often see first name used with the term last name. We don't often mix the two; they're a pair.

Agree there is no difference but you would seldom hear the term "given name" anywhere but in the US - in the UK, NZ, Australia it is always "first name". You might also see "forename" on legal paperwork/documentation.
