Why “push back” for postpone? Why not push forward? This is so confusing. Just an exception that has to be memorized? Wedding push back to December. Back is like the past but it’s about future.

Think of it as if looking at it as a physical object. If I have something scheduled for June 15 but I need to delay, I'm pushing the appointment farther away.

Bon point sur le temps comme matériau physique. En français, on emploie le verbe “repousser” pour mettre un rendez-vous plus tard dans l’agenda.

Different cultures have different perspectives on time as a physical direction. Some prefer down for earlier, others for later. . If something approaches me & I want it further away, I push it back. . Push the wedding pack another month. (Delay it, postpone) or Bring it forward a month to avoid Christmas. (sooner) . Closer to you (now) or further from you (now). . Maybe this helps you with teh interpretation, but in the end, languages and cultures have the associations that they have.
