Kanji vs Chinese Hanzi - pronunciation is hiragana and katakana pronounced the same as in kanji? for example ごはん gohan ご飯 gohan are they the same pronunciation? I ask because I'm new to Japanese, but I can speak Chinese pretty well. A lot of the Kanji has the same meaning as in Chinese - Do I need to learn the Kanji if I already know it in Chinese?

Readings in kanji are different from how it's read in Chinese but the meaning will be the same. I would just say you'd probably just need to learn the new pronunciation for the kanji words that you stumble upon
