Can anyone explain why it's better to say "I'm learning Portuguese" rather than "I learn Portuguese"

I’m learning Portuguese. (It’s part of my current status)
I learn Portuguese by talking on the phone with my Aunt. (Connects the learning process with the phone calls)

I'm learning is showing present tense while I learn is showing a constant thing which you dont know if it'll be that way yet 👍
