next / the next
I saw this phrase "Will you be next?" on the lottery advertisement.
Why no "the" before next? I think it should be "Will you be the next?".
Both are correct. Next can be used as an adjective - I am next; next week. OR as a pronoun, eg that book is the next (book) I shall read. She is the next (person) in line.

I think you are right. In this sentence "Next" indicates a group of people or just one person and we can use "the" before the adjectives which classify people. It's a rule.
