I’m not a native Spanish speaker, nor a Spanish teacher... but take into account that “ser” is used for general existence whereas “estar” is used for temporary conditions... it seems a literary pun, that says if you wanna live in its entirety, you should embrace the temporary states of life; But still, let’s wait for some Spanish speakers

Understanding "para ser hay que estar" depends on understanding the distinction between the type of being that "ser" describes and the type of being that "estar" describes. "Ser" identifies the essence of something; "estar" describes the condition or state of something. A more-or-less literal translation of this sentence into English would be "In order to be it is necessary to be"; however, this literal translation is almost useless as it fails to clearly convey the basic difference in meanings between "ser" and "estar". Another way to express the underlying idea of "para ser hay que estar" is: "In order to become that type of person it is necessary to act like that type of person."

Here in Mexico he deals as an informal phrase, that is, for example "To be considered a father you have to be present in the lives of your children"

I think it's easier to explain it if we add things to the sentence. For example: Para ser, hay que estar vivo to be, you have to be alive What I mean is that in Spanish the verb TO BE can be translated in both words "ser" or "estar" Estar is usually used to refer "to be in a place" For ex: Estoy en USA. But also to refer a mood: Estoy feliz (it's in the moment, if you are talking about you whole life you will say "soy feliz") And in that sentence it means "Estar" of being alive, of being SOMEWHERE. so if you want to "ser" "to exist" you have to "estar vivo" This is the way maybe an English native could understand those verbs, I hope it helps you!
