맑다, 명백하다, 뻔하다, 선명하다 > all mean 'To be clear' ? I want to know the differences between 맑다, 분명하다, 명백하다, 뻔하다 and 선명하다 as I believe they all mean 'to be clear' but they can be used differently. I think it may be as following: 맑다: clear as in something being pure or clean 분명하다 = clear as ??? 명백하다: clear as in something being obvious 뻔하다: clear as in something being obvious, same as above 선명하다: clear as bright 하지만 확실하지 않아요... So I hope someone can confirm it or correct me :)

Most of them are related to something being clear, except 뻔하다. 뻔하다 usually means the speaker can tell something even without seeing, or it is so obvious it doesn't take much effort to judge. 맑다 = clear, as in translucent. 분명하다 = clear, as in easily discernible. 뻔한 거짓말 (an obvious lie). 선명하다 = distinct and vivid, so as to stand out from the others. 맑다 and 선명하다 typically (but not always) describe a physical aspect. 분명하다 applies both physically and conceptually, while 명백하다 is mostly conceptual. 뻔하다 is usually for non-physical things (like behavior, reaction, future development, etc).

1) 맑다 to be clear for pure and clean : water, air, sky, weather and mind(정신). 2) 분명하다 to be clear about what I see and hear. 3) 명백하다 to be clear for something obvious 4) 뻔하다 to be clear/obvious about predictable fact 5) 선명하다 to be clear for vivid color / sharp picture(사진), screen(화면) / memory(기억) 오늘 하늘이 맑아요. The sky is clear today. I heard what he said clearly. It is an obvious fact. If you don't study, it is obvious to fail an exam. It's an old picture but the color is clear.
