I have just heard about that, we pronounce the word "often"- [ˈɔfən], but it's wrong. It should be [ˈɔftən],is it? Usually we know it's [ˈju:ʒuəli] but pronouce it like [ˈju:ruəli]. It is not correct. In Europe where people are strictly on pronouciation, will they feel it uneducated?
I had just knew it my pronouncing these two words is not properly. How can I learn standard pronounciation? Is there a teaching material, like the teachers should do before get a teacher-permit?

First, I think that this is a good pay-back between English and other major European languages. Very often, native English speakers complain how difficult other European languages are, since they have difficult grammar constructions (like French, Spanish, Italian etc.), and even the case declensions (such as German, Russian, etc.).  On the other hand, however, English has the most horrible problem in terms of pronunciation: each of the vowels and diphthongs could come up with tons of variations, giving any non-native speakers a lot of hassles!  To overcome the pronunciation matter, time and practice might be the only solution.

However, in addition to the pronunication, I would personally suggest that you may as well need to pay more attention in terms of writing.  As you see, in conversations or pronunciations, this is simply a verbal matter.  So, unless you are in a very formal situation (such as making a public speech, etc.), you may have to worry about the proper pronunciation of each word and phrase.  However, for writing or composition, you are in fact placing your ideas in terms of words, and if this were mistakenly written, such mistakes would always stay there without escape.  For instance, on your original posed message, one may see a number of typos, grammatical and structural errors.  This honestly does not give a good impression to the audience in general (although I am fully aware of the fact that we are now in a language platform, where we consider here as a place to practise some foreign languages).

I actually say "offen" for 'often'.  Including the 't' breaks up the flow of speaking.  I'm not sure if this is correct. ;)

For 'usually' I actually say "yoo-zh'-lee", virtually sliding the 'u' and 'a' together.  The pronunciation you use is strange and may be misunderstood.  Even "yoo-zoo-all" sounds clearer than "yoo-roo-all".

The best way to learn pronunciation is to imitate and repeat what you hear.  This is as natural as possible.  Use the charts and phonetic alphabet only to refine the sound.
