the actualy derive from different origin
english is a germanic language like german, swedish,....
italian is a latin language like french, spanish...
the main structure between those two branches of the indoeuropean languages(subdevided into several groups : germanic, latin celtic , slavic , hellenic celtic and indoiranian).. is quite similar but not enough to classify them as similar languages
there is a huge difference in vocabulary and in grammar,
unless you use in english its latin part as a vocabulary ,you can't even compare them

Hello Kanaria,
Differences in pronunciation and tenses, similarities in sentence structure and vocabulary.
Example:
conversation (English)
conversazione (Italian)
Very similar spelling with a difference in few letters and in pronunciation.
