How to translate these English place names into Chinese?
I was wondering if it is possible to translate the following place names into Chinese. There are all connected to where I live.
I live in the English county of 'Surrey'
My towns name is 'Woking'
My villages name is 'Knaphill'
Is it possible to translate 'Surrey' Woking' and 'Knaphill' into Chinese? Do any of them already have Chinese names?
Surrey 萨里(郡 this means county,u may add it)
Woking 沃金(镇)
Knaphill 科那普菲尔
for Surrey n Working, I got from on-line dict.; the last one i just make it (based on its sound, if i got it right:P) Normally, we use transliteration for names^^
Check out wikipedia if u could read what's on there.

Usually the obscure, less frequently used terms do not get translated; that is 'Knaphill' in this case. I do agree with Amir however, that it would make more sense to retain certain words in their original language.

knap = 嵴
hill = 陵
So you could say 嵴陵. jílíng
