Hi everyone, Is "fret"= "worry"? Does "fret" have another meaning? I am reading this passage: "Sitting under a tree, instead of fretting about mistakes we made in the past, feeling unhappy about our weight or embarrassed about our clothing, or being angry about the injustice that an undeserving colleague got the promotion that we wanted at work."

Hey Jasmine, Ideally, I would say it does mean 'worry or being anxious'. It could also have a lot of meanings according to this text.

Fret does mean worry and fretting means worrying. The word fret is also used for the raised metal pieces or strips that are found on the necks of guitars to produce the notes. However, in speech there is little chance of confusion unless someone is fretting about their guitar frets!

It can also mean something is wearing off, but in your example it does indeed mean “to worry”.
