What does this sentence mean? Slavery was already part of Africa’s tribal economy and society – more so than land ownership-before the arrival of the European traders. I can't understand what "more so than" refers to. Does it make sense that slavery was more part of Africa’s tribal economy and society than land ownership?

Yes Iris. The text is saying that slavery was already part of African society before Europeans came, and it was more a part of society than the idea that land could be owned.
