Taking a quick look at the lyrics I would guess: "running with the wild things" - is a reference to a popular children's book "Where the Wild Things Are." (If you find a copy you should read it). It also has to do with breaking rules and not doing what is expected. "give us a number fail or pass us" - the singer is complaining about being labeled and being seen merely as a failing or passing number, rather than as an individual. "quit carving notches to count the days" - it's a common action in stories about jails or prisons (or other types of confinement) that the prisoner will carve a notch every day to count the number of days that he/she has been in captivity. The singer is telling someone to stop acting like a prisoner, merely marking time until they're free.

I haven't heard the song you're talking about but as a native English speaker I would say that "running with the wild things" means behaving wildly/freely, indulging one's desires, "give us a number pass or fail us" is talking about someone judging them or "grading" them based on unrealistic expectations, and "quit carving notches to count the days" implies that they want to enjoy life rather than just watching the time pass by. Just from the phrases you have given, it sounds like the song is about young people who want to be free to make their own choices without harsh judgment from society.

Hi Nada - What do you think they might mean? I'm assuming you've looked up the words in a dictionary, do you have any ideas?
