I've been teaching pronunciation for six years. With each year I've learned more and more about the the many nuances of the American accent, and how best to teach it to students from all parts of the world. I have a lot of confidence in myself and in my approach.
My general teaching method (outlined in 'My Lessons & Teaching Style') involves a lot of repetition within sentences, targeted at your priority corrective sounds.
But if you're someone who prefers to learn something new each class, just let me know. While my advice is always to do as much repetition as possible---if you don't have time for that in your busy life, we can work together in a different way.
Me as a Teacher
If you're looking to pick up the American accent, you've found a great teacher! There are lots of patterns, nuances, and practice methods I'll share with you, which can drastically reduce your accent.
Most Americans are unaware of their own speech patterns. I have taken the time to study them, and would like to show you them. The accent can be achieved. But it takes practice.
Changing your accent is all about repetition. Just like practicing an instrument, it has to get into your muscle memory, to be of use in real life.
I have years' of experience doing this, and know the American accent inside and out.
My lessons & teaching style
1) I'll listen to your pronunciation as we talk for a few minutes. Believe it or not, this is the BEST way to diagnose what's going on with your accent. If we want to fix your accent for use in real-life conversations, then we need to diagnose your accent issues, within a real conversation.
2) We'll work together on the most glaring issues in your accent. If you can't make the sound, I'll help you to produce it.
3) Once the sound is produceable, we'll use repetition of it within sentences, to get it into your muscle memory. It's important to mix the sound into sentences, surrounded by other words, in order to mimic real life. Isolated repetition really only gets us so far.

If you are looking to reduce your accent and sound like a native English speaker, Josh is outstanding teacher here on italki.
He has learned a lot and he is aware of how your native language patterns affect your English, no matter what country you are from. He is a great communicator and passionate about different accents, languages and how people speak. While you are reading your favorite article or doing pronunciation practice exercises, he can perfectly hear, recognize and find a way to fix every odd sound, incorrect rhythm or a pitch.
I would definetely recomend working with Josh to anyone who's been strugled with pronunciation for a long time, or had already been assumed he sounds quite well enough. You'll discover lots of new and interesting things about how you sound, get fluency and levelup your communication skills in English.
Thank you!

Super helpful, highly recommended.
Josh told me about lots of very interesting rules of pronunciation that I had no idea about. And the most useful part is that it's not just random tips I can find on YouTube, but it's exactly what I personally was pronouncing wrong.
Also, it's not just "don't say this, say that instead." Every recommendation is supported by the terminology (that I can google) and materials from a textbook.

Great session. Josh shared some new techniques to improve on the accent, things that had never been shown to me by any other coaches before. Josh certainly offers a real opportunity to make further progress with his lessons.
