Although my profession and passion is language instruction, I have many other interests: basketball, politics, pop and jazz music, Asian and Italian cuisine, swimming, film, table tennis, screenwriting, and pop-culture in general. Most of my students are surprised to learn that I was the lead singer of a pop band called The Pleasure Bombs in my 20's. If I made a short list of people I admire, it would include: Steve Jobs, Pablo Picasso, Emily Dickinson, George Eastman, The Beatles, Madonna, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Bruce Lee, J.R.R Tolkien, Meryl Streep, among others. I am Italian-American (Sicilian) and my favorite cities I have lived in so far are Berlin, San Francisco, and New York.
Me as a Teacher
I play multiple roles as a teacher-- mentor, conversation partner, advisor, coach, motivator, entertainer, and of course, instructor. I think most of my students think of me as smart, funny, passionate, creative, and dedicated. Although I understand the importance of reading and listening skills, I prefer to help students with speaking. I use my expert knowledge of a second language (German) to help me understand the challenges my students face learning English. I love to joke and have fun with students because if you're not having fun, you're not going to learn in my opinion. I feel strongly that language is food and that you need to eat it and enjoy it in the same manner.
My lessons & teaching style
I help students with all aspects of English grammar, vocabulary, speaking and writing skills. My teaching style is a student-centered, communicative approach. Test-taking skills are important, but not something I care to teach. The five principles of my teaching philosophy which always serve as my guidelines in interacting with students both in a classroom environment or in smaller, one-on-one teacher/student situations are:
Understanding The Unique Learning Situation Of Each Student
Instilling Confidence In The Learning Process
Setting Reasonable And Specific Goals and Finding A Way To Get There
The Importance Of Playing A Game
Learning To Learn

I love the way I connect with Charles. It doesn’t feel like a class. He really touches on those points where you are motivated to express yourself, and my brain simply engages in fluid English conversations. I don’t feel pressured, bored, or judged; I feel like I'm in good hands.
