Hello!
In my trial lessons we will get to know each other. You will find out who I am and why you might want to be my student! I will get to know your goals and plans for your English learning. Time for introductions!

These are lessons for A2-C2 students, who plan to take a test such as IELTS or TOEFL. I also offer writing correction for students taking university courses in English-speaking countries. If you are learning English in any context and you need writing help, this is the lesson type for you, too! 

General:
Depending on your goals, we will take a more formal or informal teaching approach. My education as a teacher is with CELTA methods, which means I am focused on getting you to talk, and guide you in discovery of how English works, rather than having me do all the talking and overwhelm you with irrelevant details. 

Each lesson typically follows a simple and predictable structure. I prefer to work out a schedule with each individual student, because every student's needs are different.

Test Preparation (IELTS/TOEFL):
I have been preparing people for IELTS for two years and am excited to help you achieve the highest score you can get. If you are taking IELTS, we will practice for every type of question it's possible to get on the test and make sure you're ready for it. All four IELTS sections: Reading, writing, listening and speaking will be covered both though in-class dialogues and homework assignments. I will help you get the best score possible. Ask me how one of my students achieved 8.5 on speaking!

In these lessons we will discuss a point of grammar or vocabulary, as well as give you time to use what you've learned in practical, real conversation with me! I will give you lots of feedback on your speaking and writing. We will also do assignments related to the test and prepare your writing skills for it. I will correct and grade your homework, this is part of what you pay for. 

If you sign up for packages with me, you do not just pay for the lesson time, you pay for the opportunity to continually ask questions during my work hours and have my full attention.

IELTS (Preparation for English Testing)

Conversational English practice with lots of correction, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar help. Intermediate and advanced levels welcome. These lessons are not for test preparation. 

This is my most flexible type of lesson, where we will allow conversation to reveal to us areas of language that need work. I will bring topics for discussion, or we can discuss something you need to focus on for a specific goal. It will be casual or formal, depending on the type of language you want to use. 

We can use informal media, such as youtube videos, movies, music or radio. Bring me song lyrics, bring me movie monologues, bring me your strangest English questions!

When we need to, we can jump into specific grammar, spelling or pronunciation, but the focus of this type of lesson is getting you fluent and confident with the English you already know. 

I am a curious guy and enjoy talking about just about anything! Life is great! Tell me about you!

I am also university educated and find academic subjects fascinating. We can get as bookish and pedantic as you would like, and push your advanced English as far as we can.

The main difference between these lessons and my test preparation lessons, besides the focus, is that in general speaking lessons we will correct any writing practice together, during class time.

General Conversational English Practice for Intermediate and Advanced learners

This lesson type is for teachers who want to include a native speaker in their lessons. I will join you in your lesson as a 'guest' in order to provide your students with practice speaking with a native speaker. I do not have training in teaching children. 

You will do the main lesson planning, and I will simply be a feature in the lesson. You will lead the lessons. 

If you are a group of students who want to hire me to help you as a tutor, you may also book this lesson type for speaking practice.

Teaching Assistant—Hire me to help you teach your English class (Teachers with adult groups only)

Are you part of a group of learners? Do you want the help of a  teacher to practice and receive feedback? I can help! These lessons centre around a conversation topic. They are not primarily grammar lessons, but are rather informal discussions where I can interact with your group and give feedback on areas to improve. I will provide grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary feedback. We will not have extensive homework, only feedback and some suggestions from me. 

I don't teach children, but I do teach teenagers and adults. 
Maximum students: 5. 
Minimum students: 3.

Informal Group Conversation Lessons — 3-5 Students

Have you recently moved to Canada? Are you feeling like all the English you learned before you moved is somehow useless?! I can help. 

These lessons focus on Canadian English exactly as it is used here in Canada. I will teach you idioms, slang, pronunciation, and everything you need to know to survive and thrive in the True North Strong and Free! 

Depending on how detailed you would like me to be, we can get into the nitty-gritty of connected speech issues and analyze Canadian pronunciation on the deepest level. I can help you both to understand Canadians and be understood by Canadians, and hey, if you give it your all, you may even end up sounding like a Canadian yourself—but no promises on that one, friend!
