While having a conversation, explain new vocabulary and phrases in words and chat.
I think it is important to talk a lot.  The experience of not being able to say it correctly or making a mistake is the key to improving your language skills.

I've been studying world history, religion, languages, etc. lately, so I welcome such topics!
Of course, you can talk about anime, music, and movies!
