Process Diagrams: Natural and Manufacturing Processes | IELTS #105
Description
Level B2 (approx. band 5.5-6.5) · Academic only
Sometimes Academic Task 1 shows no numbers at all. Instead, you see a diagram with pictures and arrows: how something is made, or how something happens in nature. Learners who have practised only graphs write the bottles washed instead of the bottles are washed, they repeat then ten times, and they forget the overview because there is no trend.
In this episode:
• Two kinds of process
• The passive
• Sequencing language
• The overview for a process
• Model
• Language bridge
• Practice
• Self-check questions with answers
Key points:
• Find the start, the end, and every stage in between before you write.
• Manufacturing usually takes is or are plus a past participle; nature usually takes the active.
• Mix simple sequencers with once, after being and before being.
• Number of stages, first stage, last stage.
