Although I'm from the UK, I lived in China for 15 years, teach a large number of Chinese students, and even have a Chinese girlfriend. In this episode, I share some of my thoughts on the main differences I've noticed between the two cultures. These affect the way we approach education, the way we interact with our friends, and even how we eat our food and choose what to wear.

#8 - Café!

🐺Caperucita Roja y el Lobo.🐺

Caperucita Roja era una niña dulce que siempre llevaba una capa roja con capucha. Un día, su madre le pidió que llevara una cesta con pan y miel a su abuelita, que vivía en el bosque. Antes de salir, le advirtió: "No hables con extraños y sigue el camino directo a la casa de la abuela". Pero en el camino, Caperucita se encontró con un lobo astuto que, fingiendo amabilidad, le preguntó a dónde iba. Sin sospechar nada, la niña le contó su destino, y el lobo, con una sonrisa maliciosa, planeó llegar antes que ella.

El lobo corrió a la casa de la abuela y, con engaños, logró entrar. Se la comió de un bocado y luego se disfrazó con su ropa para esperar a Caperucita en la cama. Cuando la niña llegó, notó algo extraño en su "abuelita": "¡Qué ojos tan grandes tienes!" —dijo—. "Para verte mejor", respondió el lobo. "¡Y qué orejas tan grandes!", insistió Caperucita. "Para oírte mejor", contestó el lobo. "¡Y qué dientes tan grandes tienes!" —exclamó la niña asustada—. "¡Para comerte mejor!" Y de un salto, el lobo intentó atraparla.

Justo en ese momento, un leñador que pasaba por allí escuchó los gritos y entró corriendo a la casa. Con su hacha, ahuyentó al lobo y, al abrir su enorme barriga, rescató a la abuela sana y salva. Caperucita, agradecida, aprendió una gran lección: nunca debía hablar con extraños y siempre debía seguir las advertencias de su madre. Desde ese día, tuvo mucho más cuidado al caminar por el bosque.

제주도는 아름다운 섬이에요

한국에는 아름다운 섬이 많이 있어요. 그중에서 가장 유명한 섬은 제주도예요. 제주도는 한국의 남쪽에 있어요. 그리고 제주도는 한국에서 가장 큰 섬이에요.

제주도에는 많은 사람들이 여행을 가요. 왜냐하면 제주도에는 볼 것도 많고, 먹을 것도 많기 때문이에요. 먼저, 제주도에는 한라산이 있어요. 한라산은 한국에서 가장 높은 산이에요. 겨울에는 눈이 많이 와서 아주 아름다워요. 등산을 좋아하는 사람들은 한라산에 올라가요. 정상에서 보는 풍경은 정말 멋있어요.

또한, 제주도에는 유명한 바다도 많아요. 협재 해수욕장은 바닷물이 깨끗하고 모래가 부드러워요. 여름에는 많은 사람들이 수영을 해요. 그리고 성산일출봉도 유명해요. 성산일출봉은 해 뜨는 곳으로 유명해요. 아침 일찍 가면, 아주 예쁜 일출을 볼 수 있어요.

제주도에는 맛있는 음식도 많아요. 특히 제주 흑돼지가 유명해요. 제주도에 가면 꼭 흑돼지를 먹어야 해요. 그리고 제주도의 귤도 아주 맛있어요. 겨울에 제주도에 가면, 귤을 직접 따서 먹을 수 있어요.

제주도에는 재미있는 곳도 많아요. 예를 들면, 오설록 티뮤지엄에서는 맛있는 녹차 아이스크림을 먹을 수 있어요. 그리고 제주 돌문화공원에서는 제주도의 전통 문화를 배울 수 있어요.

제주도는 자연이 아름답고 음식도 맛있어요. 그리고 여행하기도 편리해요. 그래서 많은 사람들이 제주도를 좋아해요. 만약 한국에서 여행을 가고 싶다면, 제주도는 꼭 가 볼 만한 곳이에요!

Alcohol is a leading cause of cancer, a risk that should be clearly labeled on drinks Americans consume, the top doctor in the US has said.

The US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy made the proposal as research and evidence mounts about the effects that alcohol has on human health.

His suggestion for a label would require approval from the US Congress.

Americans should be better informed about the link between alcohol and cancer, in particular, Murthy argues, noting that alcohol consumption was to blame for nearly one million preventable cancer cases in the US over the last decade.

About 20,000 people die every year from those alcohol-related cancer cases, he said.

Bottles of beer, wine and liquor already carry warning labels that say pregnant women should not drink alcohol and that alcohol consumption can impair a person's ability to drive a car.

But Murthy's proposed label would go even further, raising awareness about the risk for cancer, too.

"It's pretty crazy that there's a lot more information on a can of peas than on a bottle of whiskey," said Timothy Naimi, who directs the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research at the University of Victoria in British Columbia.

"Consumers have the right to basic information about health risks, serving size and drinks per container."

Consuming alcohol raises the risk of developing at least seven types of cancer, including liver, breast and throat cancer, research has found.

Murthy said that as a person's alcohol consumption goes up, so does the risk for developing those illnesses.

However, it's unlikely that Congress would act quickly to enact a new warning on alcohol products.

It's been nearly four decades since Congress approved the first government warning label on alcohol and no updates have been made since then.

Any effort to add a cancer warning label to alcohol would face significant pushback from a well-funded and powerful beverage industry, which spends nearly $30 million every year lobbying Congress.
