In today's episode, we learn why it's wrong to say that the food was 'very delicious', or that the weather was 'very freezing'. The reason is all to do with the fact that some adjectives are GRADABLE - we can make them stronger or weaker by using intensifiers such as 'very' or 'fairly', for example 'she's very pretty' or 'the weather is very hot'. But other adjectives are UNGRADABLE, which means that they're already at the very top (e.g., 'amazing') or the very bottom (e.g., terrible). Mt.Fuji is opened for climber from July 1st to September 10th.
So many people visit Mt.Fuji every year, but I've never visited there.
Today I'm going to talki about Mt.Fuji's yamabiraki day.

６月２６日の新聞に「富士　弾丸登山に懸念」という記事がありました。
日本の山といえば、富士山。　富士山は葛飾北斎の浮世絵にも描かれています。さらに、２０１３年にユネスコの世界文化遺産にも登録されています。　たぶん、富士山の名前ぐらいは　Mt.Fujiという呼び名で、みなさんも　知っているのではないでしょうか。標高３７７１メートルの富士山は、夏にしか登ることができません。　そう、７月に山開きを迎えるのです。
７月１日に山梨県側の吉田ルート、７月１０日に静岡県側の須走、富士宮、御殿場の３つのルートが全面開通され、山頂まで登れるようになるそうです。そして、９月１０日まで。また富士山への道は閉ざされます。
海外からの観光客だけでなく、多くの日本人が富士山頂から、日の出を見るために山に登ります。　その朝日を「御来光」と呼んでいます。仏教から来ていることばで、高い山から見る朝日は、仏さまの光、尊いものと考えられているからです。　毎年２０万人以上の人たちが訪れる富士山ですが、実は私は行ったことがありません。　一度は行ってみたいと思っていますが、山登りが苦手なので、なかなか腰があがらないまま、この年になってしまいました。たぶん、もう富士登山には登らないだろうと思っています。
富士山頂から日の出を見る人は、だいたい山小屋に泊まります。そして、夜が明ける前に起き出して、山頂を目指します。　ところが、今年、２０２３年の山開き初日、７月１日の山小屋の予約は、とっくに満室になっているそうです。５月に予約受付をはじめてたった２日ほどで定員に達したそうです。では、山小屋の予約ができなかった人たちは、どうするのでしょうか。　実は、途中で休憩をせずに、夜通し歩いて頂上をめざすそうです。それを弾丸登山というのですが、弾丸とは銃の玉のことです。　十分に休憩せずに短い時間で高い山に登れば、高山病にかかるリスクが高くなります。　それを地元の関係者たちは心配しているそうです。
日本に来た記念に　富士山に登ろうと思っている人は、しっかり情報を集めて、体力をつけて　臨むことが大切ですね。
