Mother's Day is coming soon. Do you know how it came about? Today we’re going to tell a short story about the origin of Mother's Day.

以前有个美国人叫 Anna，她的妈妈经常帮助生病和受伤的人，希望能为所有的妈妈设立一个节日。后来，Anna 的妈妈去世了，Anna 非常想她。为了完成妈妈的心愿，Anna 开始给很多人写信、做演讲，想让大家知道：妈妈的爱，最值得被感恩和庆祝。终于，美国把每年 5 月的第二个星期日定为了母亲节。那天，大家会送给妈妈美丽的康乃馨，拥抱她，对她说 “我爱你”。

Once upon a time, there was an American girl named Anna. Her mother often helped the sick and the injured, and hoped to set up a special festival for all mothers.
Later, Anna’s mother passed away, and Anna missed her terribly. To fulfill her mother’s wish, Anna began writing letters to many people and giving speeches, wanting everyone to know that a mother’s love is the most worthy of gratitude and celebration.
Eventually, the United States designated the second Sunday of May every year as Mother’s Day. On that day, people give their mothers beautiful carnations, hug them, and say "I love you" to them.

こんにちは～！マルハバ！サウジの日本語の先生、佳子です。このポッドキャストでは、日本やサウジアラビアのこと、私の日常などについて、ゆるく日本語でお話ししています。トランスクリプトとクイズは、ぜひ概要欄をチェックしてくださいね！
みなさんー！お元気ですかー？日本は梅雨が明けて猛暑の日々ですね。サウジは毎日の最高気温が４５度くらいで、暑いですよ！
さて、今日は「日本人とサウジ人の夏の過ごし方」についてお話ししたいと思います。
まずはみなさんに質問です。日本の夏とサウジの夏、どちらが暑いと思いますか？ 実は、私は日本にいた頃の方が「暑い！」と感じていました。理由は、実家のリビングにエアコンがなかったからです（笑）。日本の夏は35度くらいですが、高校生まで家でも汗をかきながら過ごしていました。 部活動の体育館にもエアコンがなかったので、夏は本当に暑かったです。高校生のころは毎日２０分自転車で通学していました。学校に着くころには汗だくでした（笑）。社会人になってからも駅やお店まで１５分くらい歩いたり、駅で電車を待ったり、日本では夏に外にいる時間が長かったです。 一方、サウジは外は45度くらいになりますが、電車やバスなどの公共交通機関をあまり使わないので、外を歩く時間が短いです。ショッピングモールや家など屋内で過ごす時間が多く、毎日とても快適に過ごしています。 
【Part2】
では、日本人はどのように夏を過ごすのでしょうか？多くの子供たち、若者の夏の楽しみといえば、プール・海・夏祭りです！７－８月はプールや海で遊ぶのに最適な季節です。私もお父さんの仕事の休みの日には、よくプールや海に連れて行ってもらいました。夏祭りや花火大会も７，８月を中心に開催され、多くの人で賑わいます。食べ物やゲームなどの屋台も夏祭りや花火大会の楽しみですね。私は地域で開催される花火大会に１－２回行ってました。水遊びと花火大会が夏休みのハイライト！
多くの地域で、７月後半から８月末までが小学校から高校の夏休みです。私が小学生だった頃は、規則正しく、健康的な夏休みを送っていました。夏休みの朝６時半ころから町内の「ラジオ体操」に参加していました。ラジオ体操に参加するとスタンプがもらえて、スタンプを集めるとお菓子などがもらえたので、開催日は欠かさずいっていました。また、そのころ、スマホやコンピューターがなかったので、よく図書館や学校のプールに行ったり、宿題をしたりしていました。夏休みの宿題は早めに済ませるタイプだったので、夏休みの前半には全部終わらせていましたね。でも、日本には小学校で夏休みの自由研究っていう宿題があって、これは私にとって難しかった記憶があります。化学の実験をしたり、工作をしたりと、少しクリエイティブなことをしなければなりません。 
中学生から高校生の時は、バレーボール部に所属していたので、夏休み中も週４，５回がっつり部活がありました。中学生、高校生の時の夏休みは部活がメインで、家族で長期の旅行に行くのは難しかったです。たまに部活仲間とバーベキューしたり、花火大会に行ったのを覚えています。そうそう、暑いけど、夏にバーベキューをする人も多いです。
社会人の時、夏に京都旅行に行ったときは、浴衣を着て観光したり、山にあるレストランで流しそうめんをしたりして、とても楽しかったです。そうめんは、白い細い麺で冷たい漬け汁と一緒に食べる夏に人気の食べ物です。流しそうめんは、竹を半分に割って長くつなげ、その上を水とそうめんが流れてきます。流れてくるそうめんをお箸で取って食べるので、ゲームみたいでとても楽しいです。 日本では流しそうめんがおうちで楽しめる機械まで売っていますよ。夏の食べ物ではスイカやかき氷も人気ですね！
日本の夏は暑いですが、楽しいイベントやおいしい食べ物もたくさんあります。みなさんは、夏に何を食べるのが好きですか？
