Description
A child's Malayalam is simple and repetitive, a child will not switch to English, and a child will repeat things forty times without irritation. This class shows how to actually hold a conversation with a Malayali child. You learn the openers (which class are you in is how you ask a child's age), the praise words to use constantly, the words of mock alarm children love, plain imperatives, and the language of games and turns. Then the most productive sentence you can say to a child, asking them to teach you, a different approach for teenagers, and the cultural notes that matter. Words and phrases in this class: എന്താ പേര്? (enthaa peru?) – what's your name? ഏത് ക്ലാസ്സിലാണ്? (ethu classilaanu?) – which class are you in? എനിക്ക് ഒന്ന് കാണിച്ചു തരാമോ? (enikku onnu kaanichu tharaamo?) – will you show me? കുഞ്ഞേ (kunje) – little one മിടുക്കൻ! (midukkan!) – clever boy! മിടുക്കി! (midukki!) – clever girl! കൊള്ളാം! (kollaam!) – nice, well done! എന്നിട്ട് എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു? (ennittu enthu sambhavichu?) – and then what happened? സൂക്ഷിക്ക് (sookshikku) – be careful എന്റെ ഊഴം (ente oozham) – my turn നിന്റെ ഊഴം (ninte oozham) – your turn ഞാൻ ജയിച്ചു! (njaan jayichu!) – I won! നീ പഠിപ്പിക്കാമോ? (nee padippikkaamo?) – will you teach me? പരീക്ഷ എപ്പോഴാണ്? (pareeksha eppozhaanu?) – when is the exam? In this class: • Openers that work with a child of any age • Praise, mock alarm and plain imperatives • Games and turns, and asking a child to teach you • Teenagers: films, songs, exams, and being treated as competent Quizzes below.
