Description
Level B2 (approx. band 5.5-6.5) · Academic and General Training Academic texts in Reading, lectures in Listening Part 4 and Task 2 essays all use a small group of powerful words again and again: analysis, evidence, factor, impact. Learners often know these words when reading, but use them wrongly when writing. "Researches shows many evidences." That short sentence has three errors. In this episode: • Analysis: looking closely • Evidence, research and data • Factors and causes • Impact, effect and consequence • Model • Language bridge • Practice • Self-check questions with answers Key points: • analyse is the verb, analysis is the noun; pair the noun with carry out or conduct. • evidence and research are uncountable; use study and studies when you need a plural. • factor needs an adjective partner, and results in and results from point in opposite directions. • impact takes on, consequence is often negative, and affect is the safe verb.
