IELTS Preparation. Band 8-9 Answers. Part 2 - Describe an interesting old person you met.

You should say:

Who this person is
When/where you met this person
What you did
And explain why you think this person is interesting

Here are soem extra words you can use in your answers!

off the top of your head: from the knowledge you have in your memory

within spitting distance of something: next to or extremely near something

give or take: possibly a little more or less than the amount or time mentioned

hooked (on something): enjoying something very much, so that you want to do it, see it, etc. as much as possible

go into detail (about​/​on): to mention many facts or aspects of a situation

know sth like the back of your hand: to have very good and detailed knowledge of something

blow away: to impress someone very much or make them very excited

let off​/​blow off steam: to express your feelings of anger or excitement without harming anyone

Imagine speaking this way - using some of these relevant vocabulary. What might be different in your answers? :)

1.  Respond truthfully to the questions asked

While it can seem tempting to embellish your skills and accomplishments, interviewers find honesty refreshing and respectable. Focus on your key strengths and why your background makes you uniquely qualified for the position.

2.  Tie answers to your skills and accomplishments
With any interview question you answer, tie your background to the job by providing examples of solutions and results you’ve achieved in your career so far. Use every opportunity to address the requirements listed in the job description.

3. Keep your answers concise and focused
Remember: Your time with each interviewer is limited so be mindful of rambling answers. Practicing your answers beforehand can help keep you focused.

こんにちは。日本語教師の　なだに　ゆうこです。
おひさしぶりです。
明日から6月ですね。　もう　1年の半分が過ぎようとしています。
みなさんは、いかがお過ごしでしたか。私はいろいろありました。
1月末に　コロナにかかった話は　1月28日にアップした「コロナで始まった2024　年 Start 2024 with Covid-19”」でお話しました。

それからのことです。
1月の健康診断のあと、いつものように乳がん検診も受けました。
いつもと違ったのは、ステージ１の小さなガンが発見されたことです。
たった1泊2日の入院手術でしたが、いろいろありました。
看護師さんに、3回も「レアですね～」と言われました。
一つめは、夜寝ているときに　点滴のチューブが外れて、床が点滴薬で　びしょ濡れになってしまったことです。　これは、私が　眠っている間に無意識にベッドの柵を握りしめていたことが原因です。　点滴薬が流れずに詰まって、チューブのつなぎ目が外れてしまったのです。暗闇で手が濡れていることに気付いた私は、びっくりして看護師さんを呼びました。　看護師さんは　驚いた様子も見せずに、淡々と床を拭いて処置をしてくれましたが、後で「これは　初めてのケースですね。レアです」と言われました。
２つめは、手術の翌朝、初めて起き上がるときのことです。看護師さんに「さあ、起きてみましょうか」と言われ、私はいつも通り起き上がりました。すると、「これもレアですね。だいたい　みなさん　起き上がるときに　躊躇されて、サポートが必要なんですよ。」とのこと。私は、本当にいつも通りに　起き上がっただけなんですけどね。
そして、３つめ。退院の朝、看護師さんに「ご家族の方が迎えに来られますか」と聞かれ、「いいえ」と答えると、「タクシーを呼びますか」とさらに聞かれました。私は、「いえ、自転車で来たので、自転車で帰ります。今日は午後雨が降るそうなので、お昼ごはんを食べたらできるだけ早く退院したいです。」と言いました。すると、看護師さんに「自転車！？これもレアですね～。　」と驚かれてしまいました。私は、驚かれたことに驚きましたが、「そういえば、この病院の駐車場には　高級車ばかり止まっていたなあ・・・。」と心の中でつぶやきました。
私の乳がん手術は　先生のおかげでとってもうまくいって、今　私は　なんの不調もなく元気です。　でも、入院した私は　ちょっとめずらしい、レアな人だったようです。
振り返れば、今年、去年、おととしと　3年連続で全身麻酔の手術をしたこともレアかもしれませんね。
みなさんには、早めの治療ができるように、毎年1回は健康診断を受けることをお薦めします。　健康に気をつけてお過ごしくださいね。

Today we read a story about a 95 year old woman in the UK.

We're going to go through a new story today and it begins with anger as a 95 year old (is)  told to take out her bins. Now, I just want to give you some background to this first of all. So, here in the UK, we have to put our bins on the streets for them to be collected and emptied.
So we have large bins, which are referred to as wheelie bins, And we must put those on the street. Depending on your relationship with your neighbours if you live in an apartment block, someone may do this for you. But the council employees, the people who come to empty the bins, will not come upon your property to collect them. They used to. But they don't any more. Depending on the council and depending on their funding, You may be able to request them to help you if you're old or infirm. As money is tight  these days for everyone, more and more councils are refusing to do this. A council is simply a local area government.
 Now we're going to read through a story here about what's happened to a 95 year old. Now, bearing in mind that here in the UK, we don't generally mix with our neighbours unless we know them very well or are related to them.
As I’ve often told you, we view  the Government almost like a mother or father, we expect them to do the things, which perhaps in your country is done by a community.
