Rain and Weather in Malayalam — Part 3: Monsoon Words, Floods, Staying Safe | Learn Malayalam #154
Description
In Kerala the weather is not small talk: it decides whether the rice is planted, the school opens and the road is there.
You start with sun, heat, wind and shade, and പെയ്യുക, a verb used only for falling rain. Then the full rain vocabulary, from drizzle to scooping-and-pouring rain, and the two monsoons, ഇടവപ്പാതി in June and തുലാവർഷം in October. The umbrella turns out to be year-round equipment. The class then turns to the 2018 floods and the fishing crews who carried their boats inland to rescue people. It gives you the flood and landslide words, and the questions that check whether people are safe.
Words and phrases in this class:
മഴ പെയ്യുന്നു (mazha peyyunnu) – it is raining
