GLORIA: Yes, I’m looking for a sweater — in a size medium.
SALESPERSON: Let’s see … here’s a nice white one. What do 
you think?
GLORIA: I think I’d rather have it in blue.
SALESPERSON: OK … here’s blue, in a medium. Would you
like to try it on?
GLORIA: OK … yes, I love it. It fits perfectly. How much is it?
SALESPERSON: It’s $50. It will be $53, with tax.
GLORIA: Perfect! I’ll take it.

LANGUAGE NOTES
• Can I help you? or “May I help you?” is what a salesperson normally says to greet 
a customer.
• I’m looking for a here means “I don’t know exactly which one I want.”
• Size medium. Clothing usually comes in small, medium and large sizes. Some 
women’s clothing comes in number sizes, usually ranging from 2 to 16.
• Let’s see … An expression used when a person wants to think something over, to 
make a choice or decision, or to look for something.
• I’d rather have it in here means “I don’t like this exact one. I would prefer it in a 
different” color/size/material, etc.
• Would you like to …? is a polite way to ask “Do you want to …?”
• Try it on means to test the fit or appearance of a garment by putting it on. “Try on” is a 
separable phrasal verb, so the object “it” goes between “try” and “on.”
• How much is it? means “How much does it cost?” Notice that the main sentence 
stress falls on “is” in this question.
• I’ll take it means “I will buy it.”

Uno de los grandes educadores de México en los años de transición entre los siglos XIX y XX fue el humanista Justo Sierra Méndez, fundador de la Universidad Nacional de México, actual UNAM. Se distinguió por sus ideas positivistas de libertad, orden y progreso que proyectó en la educación mexicana del Porfiriato. Gran escritor y pedagogo de los textos escolares para los niños mexicanos, a quienes inculcó el "amor a la patria".  sus ideas educativas  impulsaron la libertad, el orden y el progreso en la mentalidad de las nuevas generaciones que hicieron la nueva Revolución política y social, que señaló el cambio hacia la modernización de México en el mundo contemporáneo.
En el año 1910, el Maestro Justo Sierra, Ministro de Instrucción Pública de México, creó la Escuela Nacional de Altos Estudios, para la formación de los profesores que requerían las escuelas profesionales; y perfeccionaría la educación superior mexicana a través de las investigaciones científicas en los campos de las humanidades, las ciencias exactas y las ciencias naturales. Y, también fundó la Universidad Nacional de México, la cual inauguró el 22 de septiembre de 1910, en la conmemoración del Centenario de la Revolución de Independencia de México.

La Universidad Nacional de México se conformó con las escuelas Preparatoria, de Jurisprudencia, Medicina, Ingeniería, Bellas Artes y Altos Estudios. Desde entonces se convirtió en el "Alma Mater" de la cultura mexicana. Posteriormente se reorganizó como Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, la más grande de América Latina, y una de las más importantes del Mundo. Su primer Rector fue el Dr. Joaquín Eguía Lis. Otro de sus grandes Rectores fue el humanista José Vasconcelos, el autor de la obra "Raza Cósmica", cuya idea "Por mi raza hablará el espíritu", se convirtió en el lema de la Universidad.
