Take an exam means giving your exams, conducting your exam . And pass in exam means you got your exams clear( get a good results and pass in exam)

the main difference between "take an exam" and "pass an exam" is that taking an exam represents the action of sitting for it, while to pass an exam means that you have succeeded in the test by achieving the grade or mark required
