China’s wisdom for the world
Nowadays, countless problems in different aspects emerge in the world, from military conflict to sexism, from rich hostility to populism.
All of them push us away from our blueprint—a human community with a shared future. Facing these collisions, there are a number of people in our society who are struggling to find a way to solve them.
However, Chinese ancient philosopher Confucius already provided us a method. He proposed an idea that 君子和而不同,小人同而不和 in《论语子路》, which means that the superior man is affable, but not adulatory; the mean man is adulatory, but not affable.
It touches me deeply at the first time when I read it, because I feel that the mean man in the sentence is me—a person who always criticize others for their differences. Every time I met opponents before, I always regarded them as my enemies. But now, owing to this sentence, I will try my best to understand from my objector’s view, which enlightens me a lot.
And so as to improve my tolerance for various points, I attempt to communicate in a language exchange application. In it, I met an American man who is crazy about Chinese culture, an independent Japanese woman who bring up kids by herself, an African woman who devotes herself to fighting for woman rights and so on.
Although the background of us is diverse, the home of us is common. Just like Michael Jackson sing, we are the world.
So, no matter where you from are, how old are you, who are you, just respect dissenters. Because it is them who inspire you a different view!
