Hi all, could you help,
What is the meaning of ‘beano’?
I met it in the following sentence: ‘About halfway through my first week there, in the course of a beano of some description at the Sherry-Netherland.’

It means a social event, a party, possibly to celebrate sthg. eg someone's birthday. It's a slang word used in casual speaking.
