What's the meaning of "even for"? Is it equal to "espwcially for"? The researchers cross-checked the close-work hypothesis and found that being outside drastically reduced the risk of short-sightedness, ***even for*** children that did a lot of it.

The meaning is more like "that goes even for children". I don't think "especially for" is quite the same. It's more of a surprising conclusion, but to emphasize that it's "also true even for children".

"even for..." = "you may be surprised to know that it is true also for..."
