Are the storage units I have put red circles around called cubbyholes/cubbies in AmE?

In American English, both "cubbyholes" and "cubbies" are used, but "cubbies" is more commonly used, especially in casual or informal contexts, such as in schools or homes.
British English, however, we'd use cubbyholes.

Yes! In my region we say cubby more often than cubbyhole, but both are correct.
