Hello! this is a famous sentence I found on the internet about being accused guilty even if there is a lack of evidences. I can find a correct translation and mine sounds odd too...so, I'm curious, how would you translate it?
--> 十人の真犯人を逃すとも 一人の無辜を罰するなかれ. <--

Even if you can't arrest ten true culprit., you must not punish a person who is not guilty.
たとえ、十人の真犯人を逮捕できなくても、無実の人を罰してはいけない。
Even if you loose ten true criminals, you must not punish a person who is innocent.
たとえ、十人の真犯人を逃がしたとしても、無実の人を罰してはいけない。
無辜(むこ)=罪のない= innocent
これは、刑事事件の大原則を示した言葉で、死刑を反対する理由です。証拠が不十分なのに自白を強要して犯人を作り上げることは、十人の真犯人を逃がすことよりも、ひどい行為であるという意味だと思います。
