Cantonese tones
there are 4 tones in Mandarin Chinese(阴平、阳平、上声、去声)they are respectively denoted by a sign :“-”,“/”,“V”,“\”.
Then there are 9 tones in Cantonese:「阴平」,「阴上」,「阴去」,「阳平」,「阳上」,「阳去」,「阴入」,「中入」,「阳入」.
first tone(阴平) 高平 55 or 53 诗 xi- 诗词 xi-qi*
rising tone(阴上) 高升 35 史 xi/ 历史 lig`xi/
third tone(阴去) 中平 33 试 xi. 考试 hɑo/xi.
fourth tone(阳平) 低平 11或21 时 xi* 当时 dong-xi*
fifth tone(阳上) 中升 13或23 市 xi" 广州市gwong/zao-xi"
sixth tone(阳去) 中降 22或32 事 xi` 办事 bɑn`xi`
seventh tone(阴入) 高促 5 色 xig- 颜色 ngɑn*xig-
eighth tone(中入) 中促 33 锡 xig. 无锡市mou*xing.xi"
ninth tone(阳入) 低促 22或32 食 xig` 食堂 xig`tong*
