Regional culture Introduction The main aim of this report is to try to elucidate to what extent regional history and culture is of importance and relevance to young people in the city of Albeinstein. To this end a survey and a follow-up interview were conducted among youth aged between 10 and 20 years. History The results of the survey revealed that historical events of the region were not known by a large part of the participants, especially those of a younger age. For the overwhelmingly majority of respondents, historical events of the region were neither of interest to them nor relevant to their lives, but all were in agreement that historic records were worth keeping. Culture All the participants concurred about the importance of their culture and the preservation thereof. The culture and customs of Albenstein are treasured and valued by its youth, and they wish to past them to future generations so that it does not disappear. However, many of them also shared their concerns about the influence that foreign cultures and traditions have had on their own, therefore not being able to say to what extent the culture had remained intact and unaltered over the last years. Future After carrying out this public consultation, the importance of culture, as opposed to history, is apparent. The youth of Albenstein wish to preserve their culture and protect it from the possible variations that can suffer as a result of globalization. This may be a difficult and daunting challenge as in all likelihood ,as time goes by, cultures will become unavoidable homogenous and cultural identity will be something of the past.
