Club Activity in My University.
As I wrote in the previous notebook, I am a member of debate section in ESS( What ESS is like is also written in the previous notebook).
By the say, what kind of images on debate do you have? "Debate" which I refer to here isn't usual debate in daily life.
If you live in the English-speaking world, you may know debate as sports.
Debate as sports can be classified roughly into two types, policy debate and parliamentary debate.
The formar is originated in the U.S and the latter in the U.K.
I do the formar.
Some of you may know Policy Debate focuses on logic of "debate". It represents especially (too) fast speech and constructive speech which is deeply thought out.
However the characteristic of the speech style looks strange from the view of ordinary people.
Seeing is believing. Watch this video. http://youtu.be/ZfF2DrQV0Is?t=12s
Of corse, we, English learners, can't speak in the speed like this, but at least we try to make our English more fluent.
But it is sad that some of policy debaters in Japan ignore the aspects of English learning, and they don't hesitate to use terrible English(Debaglish?) and never try to improve. ...Like this video http://youtu.be/mes8DHrQIog?t=38s
That is one of the inherent problems in policy debate in Japan.
I'd like to stop this tendency, but sadly, my ability to use English isn't so good. I want to improve.
