Education Education in Colombia is a difficult topic to deal with. Since the creation of the new infant law, that gives more "rights" and permissions to teenagers; we, the teachers, are facing a problematic non-willing to learn times. Students are using the law as a shield that protects them from being responsible. They aren't doing their assigments because they know that the teachers are obligued to give them make up activities; So why bother. They enter to classrooms whenever they want, and we have no other option, but to let them in, otherwise, we could be sued for limiting the learning process which is a right. According to the government, we have to create a motivating enviroment for the students. But what if they aren't really interested in learning anything? There's no motivation that works! I think the law is wrong. I believe it wasn't thought through! I consider it's to permissive and therefore harmful for our society. I don't know where all of this is leading to or how we are going to end up, but nothing seems promising if we continue like this. Our teenagers aren't taking enough responsability regarding what they have in their hands: our future!

I don't know where all of this is leading, to or how we are going to it will end up, but nothing seems promising if we continue like this. Our teenagers aren't taking enough responsability regarding responsibility for what they have in their hands: our -- their future!

I think the same situation is happening here. It seems like when I was young we hardly had any rights, and mostly it was ok. There were a few teachers who misused their position as a power trip, but in my experience most teachers, even the demanding ones, were fair. Their rules in the classroom was law and we just had to deal with it. If there were problems it was usually worked out with a parent/teacher conference. I hate to sound like an old fart, but most kids can easily fall into a group mentality and without an authority figure can take away from a learning environment. I am completely in favor of good hard-working kids being given freedoms to explore and create ways to help themselves learn better, but the teacher is the adult in this situation and should be seen as the final say of how his classroom is conducted.

I know it's not fair, but it is the law. I believe that there is nothing wrong with the law implemented by the government because it is intended to extend a student's right. As a student myself, it sounds good that even if I'm late due to any reason at all (like traffic, etc.) I could still come to class and listen to my professor.. On the other hand, I feel sad because your students really knows how to use and abuse the law that was given for their good. In the end, they will not be able to utilize the maximum benefit of the law because they clearly misused it. Just don't give up on them because no matter what they are still the hope of the future, right? Take care! :D
