Ophelia

I like this painting. Therefore I want to share my knowledge about it with you.

Ophelia is a painting by British artist Sir John Everett Millais, who was a member of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood. It depicts Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare's play Hamlet. Ophelia was a beloved of the Prince Hamlet. Having known he had slain her father Polonius she went mad. She was gathering flowers and fell into the river from a tree overhanging it. We can see the flowers in the painting, this is a special language of flowers in which each flower carries a symbolic meaning. The red poppy represents sleep and death. The painting is known for its depiction of the detailed flora, the nature is depicted with botanical precision. That is a distinguishing feature of the Pre-Raphaelites.

An interesting fact is that 19 year old Elizabeth Siddal modelled for Ophelia. Being clothed in a dress she lay in a bath. As it was winter, the artist placed oil lamps under the bath to warm the water. But this didn’t worked so that Elizabeth Siddal caught a severe cold and later her father demanded the recovery of medical expenses.

I combined the first 2 sentences of the second paragraph because "An interesting fact" is not a complete sentence because it lack a verb. To be grammatically complete, a sentence must have a subject, verb, and present a complete thought. "An interesting thought" is a sentence fragment.

When you go into the past with "did" or "didn't" you do not need to use the past tense on the second verb.

"I didn't worked today"(incorrect)

"I didn't run today"(correct)

"I didn't ran today"(incorrect)
