I'm very pleased that you wrote me a letter. You said in the letter that your best friend is addicted to cigarettes, and wanted you to start smoking too. However, you don't want to start smoking, nor do you want to loose your best friend.
My suggestion would be that you write your friend a letter, telling her why you want her to give up smoking. Firstly, you should make it clear to her, that you refuse to also start smoking, however you don't want to loose her as a friend. Secondly, you should explain the harmfull effects of smoking, and the damage it will cause to her lungs. Thirdly, you could offer to help her quit smoking, as well as offer a few suggestions, for example keeping her away from smokers, finding something to distract her etcetera. Finally please encourage and help her. I'm certain that as long as you and your friends prevail, your friend will succeed in quiting smoking, and you will remain friends forever.
Your friend
