Goods transported in UK
The graph provides the information about the use of four different kinds of transport to transport goods in UK from 1974 to 2002.
The rRoad was the main mode of transport throughout this period. The figure for the road steadily rose to nearly 100 million tonnes in 2002. In contrast, the figure for the pipeline remained the lowest. However, it had a similar trend to road, and steadily increased to more than 20 million tonnes in 2002. Water showed a dramatic increase during 1978-1982 and 1998-2002, with nearly 60 to 65 million tonnes. There was a steep decline in the figure for rail from 40 million to 28 million between 1974 and 1994,after which it returned to nearly 40 million in 1998. It remained in excess of 40 million in 2002.
To sum up, the total of the goods transported in UK increased between 1974 to 2002. The numbers for all kinds of transport in 2002 were more than them in 1974
