Even in this century we continue to argue about sexism we deal with and the different treatment women and men receive and never come up with a good solution. Although many people believe quotas are the only solution for this problem, I`m very inclined to disagree with this for the reasons set forth below. First of all, no company should be obligated to hire or even schedule an interview with a woman just because she is a woman. What should happen is that the resumes shouldn’t have any information about gender, age, skin color etc..., as we can see in many countries around the world. Companies should value people's experience and education more than their gender, sexual orientation, etc.... Those have nothing to do with the ability of someone to do the job or how this person will add value to the company. Second of all, quotas is an easy solution that will bring more sexism and feed this preconception that women are fragile and need help for everything. What will happen is that females will receive less recognition for their jobs even if they perform excellently. Then, the competition and the profits of the companies with quotas would decrease, with men feeling unmotivated and women being treated with no respect. Therefore, I´m personally against any kind of quotas because I ´m sure that this, in a long run, causes an undesirable effect of more sexism and less respect for the real professionalism and legitimate intelligence many women have.
