Edelweiss. Edelweiss (Anaphalis Javanica) is also known as "Bunga Keabadian" for local people here, which means everlasting flower. It grows only in the highland areas. In my country, it is commonly found in the mountain areas like Java, South Sumatera, South Sulawesi, and Lombok. This flower never withers, but dries only. Even though it dries, but still looks very fresh and alive. This is one of the reasons why we call it "Bunga Keabadian". Edelweiss has a very good fragrance. I love its fragrance very much, especially dry edelweiss that 'hit' by wind. I don't know how to describe it, but it is like wood that combinated with rempah-rempah (I don’t know how to said it in English). Edelweiss is also a symbol of love, sincerity, and sacrifice. Here, there is a myth that (young) people believe. It is if they give edelweiss to their couples, Their love will be everlasting. That's why many people (especially mountain climbers) give it to their couples as a special gift. But nowadays, our government forbids us hard to pick them, It is because they are starting to be scarce. There are sanctions that we will get if we do. So for the mountain climbers, never try to pick them. But don’t worry, many local people who live around that area cultivate this flower in their garden. We can buy (dry) edelweiss from them. Many souvenir sellers sell (dry) edelweiss there. For example in South Sulawesi, It is in Malino. Its price about 2 dollars only. It is cheap, Isn’t it? :D

Edelweiss is also a symbol of love, sincerity, and sacrifice. Here, there is a myth that (young) people believe. If they give edelweiss to their couples [lover/partner], their love will be everlasting. That's why many people (especially mountain climbers) give it to their loved one as a special gift. But nowadays, our government sternly forbids us to pick them, It is because they are starting to become scarce. There are sanctions that we will get if we do.
