A Major or Merit Award is usually given for exceptional academic performance by a student in a school, college or university. It can be money or a gift like a book.
A First Prize Scholarship is a monetary prize given to an outstanding student nominated by a faculty to continue his/her research or studies. It is based on academic merit or a combination of academic merit and other factors such as extracurricular activities.
