Good is stronger.
Pretty good can make it sound like you are surprised that it is good. It can also mean "only a little bit good".
If you want a strong compliment, say that something is "very good" or "excellent".

Depends on the situation and if you are talking about a person or something the person did. There are countless ways to give someone a compliment without sounding redundant
