How to pronounce "moderne"?
If someone can help me - do it please) How should I pronounce "moderne" (there IS "e" in the end). It is the name for Russian equivalent of art nouveau style - style moderne. This term should be correct - William Brumfield uses it in his book "The origins of modernism in Russian architecture". How to pronounce it (the stress and this "e" in the end are bothering me) the way i won't mix it with just "modern" (new, contemporary). Thank you!

I would pronounce this word as the French would pronounce it. A longer "r" sound and a softer "n" at the end. Use Google translate to hear the French pronunciation of "moderne". Hope this helps!!

"Moderne" here is taken directly from French, and should be pronounced close to its French pronunciation: mow-'Dernn (with the "n" held longer than in standard American or English pronunciation), very close to the first French pronunciation here on Forvo:
