The first step in learning Korean is to learn Hangul. Hangul is the name of the Korean alphabet.Learning the Korean Alphabet, Hangul , is a lot easier than trying to learn Romanization of Korean. Then later, you should learn Romanization so that you can read the Romanization in those resources and know how to spell it properly in Hangul .
this is what i do :)~

I think it depends on how you're going to use your Korean. For me, as a beginner in Korean, I just want to know how to greet Koreans when I see them and how to thank them. (There is a growing Korean community where I live.) I won't ever need to write it, unless I'm taking an academic test in Korean.
Of course, I'll eventually learn Korean Hangul, if only to be able to read the bilingual English-Korean children's books I've been looking at.
