Which prefix, "ek-," "apo-," or "ab-" to add to "-cracy" to make a word meaning "scatter power"? I'm trying to coin a new word in the line of words like "democracy" and "aristocracy" that means "the belief that power should be scattered or decentralized" but my Greek isn't good enough to know which prefix to add to "-cracy" to make the word. Three seem like good candidates: ek-, ab-, and apo-, but maybe it's none of those. If you were making up this word, what prefix or prefixes would you use?

Jesse, the word you are looking for is not just -cracy and a prefix. Check out this word: αποδημοκρατικοποίηση. It means exactly what you are asking for: απο+δημοκρατία+ποιώ which is in english: de+democrati+zation. Ποιώ means make, create, do. In this case, the democracy is being abolished, therefor scattered since it is not known who got the power or how it was abolished or handled. I hope I was helpful.

Maybe the word you are looking for is "λαοκρατία" . λαός =people, the general public.
