I don't think we use a simple "Y" when making Chinese sentences. Probably just means "Yes". You'd better give an example here.

"丫"是一个语气词,本身没有太大含义,主要出现在北京方言中,含有点不礼貌的语气,在正式场合千万不能用,不过在熟人面前怎么用它也没关系.但是"丫"并不属于文明用语,所以能不用就尽量不用.
