You need to not think to hard while reading. If you try to force the words into correct english patterns while reading it, you are going about it the wrong way. This is profound, and part of living. Another quotation is "It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all". Life has many turns and twists, and if you live it to the fullest, and allow yourself to love, appreciate and experience relationships. there will be good memories, sad memories, hurtful events and hopefully, long lasting love in the end.

This is a piece of poetry, and so uses uncommon words like 'esteem' but alos combines words in ways that are not usual. Generally, what it means is: You meet someone, and get to know them, value them highly, and grow to love them, and then part. And this is the way life is for many people who are able to feel strong emotions. I think it is beautiful, but sad.
