"We have a long ride before us". What does that mean - "before us"?

Before us = ahead of us, in front of us, etc.
For example: "John stood before the king" means "John stood in front of the King".
It can also mean "ahead" as in "in the future".
For example: "We have a lot of decisions before us" can mean "We have a lot of decisions ahead of us" (meaning "in our future")

"We have a long ride before us" is generally said before a long journey.
Before means in the front . It means the same in the above context too.
