That is an error on the material. Should be "forgot".

I agree with fdmaxey - to me the sentence makes no sense.
Looks like a mistake.

In spoken English, "space out" means to look blankly and not be present; also, it can mean to forget.
Literally, "to space" something would mean to physically place objects a certain distance or "space" apart. I do not think he placed objects 1meter apart. I agree with Maxi.
